The snatch test is as follows:
- 10 minutes in duration
- You can not put the weight down during the 10 minutes or you fail the test
- The exercise to perform is the full snatch
- You can rest overhead
- Clear fixation is required upon each rep
- Only one switch of hands is allowed
- You can switch at any time but it’s recommended to switch halfway
- The weight to use should be discussed with your assessor before you start filming
Generally, a good choice is 16kg/35lb for males and 12kg/26lb for females.
The hands need to be free from blisters, rips, or tears after the set and this needs to be clearly demonstrated to the camera without editing between finishing the set and walking to the camera to show the hands.
If you are enrolled in the L5 and are completing this test as part of that, then you should be working with 20kg/44lb for males and 16kg/35lb for females. Over 50 years of age will have the option of using 4kg/9lb less on all tests, and 8kg/18lb less for over 60s.
