Dead to racking is any exercise or combination of exercises that starts dead on the ground and ends up in the racking position. This is great to program for variety and allows the athlete to choose what path to take to get the weight overhead, or even change it up as they complete the number of reps programmed.
For example, the athlete might choose to start with something that is less taxing like a dead to racking with a backswing, and as the end of the task is coming up the athlete might want to sprint to get more reps in and use a dead clean. The latter will be more taxing but that's ok when you know you're nearing the end of a task and got rest coming up.
The point is that the only requirement for this exercise is that the weight goes back to dead and ends up in the racking position for each rep to count. How it moved to dead or racking does not matter.
The exercises listed above are some of the options that can be used in some form to move from dead to racking, but it does not mean they're the only options available.
