The workout

This workout looks simple at first glance — just a clean, press, and overhead reverse lunge — but the progressive loading makes it a powerful, full-body strength builder. With only a few highly effective movements, you’ll train your entire body while sharpening technique, control, and focus.

You perform the same kettlebell combo three times, each round slightly heavier and with a little more working time. It’s a smooth, well-structured progression that challenges both your strength and your ability to maintain form under fatigue.

I thought I could handle 2×28kg for Task 3, but it became clear very quickly that wasn’t the right choice for the day. I ended up using:
• 2×16kg for Task 1
• 2×20kg for Task 2
• 2×24kg for Task 3
…and then returned to the yellow bells for Task 4.

The final AMRAP is definitely where the mental game kicks in, but it’s also where the magic happens — you learn exactly where your capacity is and where you want to improve next time.

I’ll repeat this workout, and I know I’ll perform better. Even with the challenge, I really enjoyed the structure and the way it builds strength smoothly from start to finish.

Advanced

Why:

  • Double kettlebell work throughout
  • Heavy progressive loading
  • Overhead work under fatigue
  • Reverse lunges under load (balance + stability demands)
  • Long AMRAP finish requiring strength, endurance, and mental resilience

Very Vigorous

Why:

  • Multi-joint, overhead, unilateral control under load
  • Repeated strict presses + overhead reverse lunges
  • Heavy progressive rounds (3 blocks)
  • Final 10-minute AMRAP under shoulder + core fatigue
  • Full-body stress with minimal relief

This is short-rest, high-output, whole-body intensity.

Scaling

Scale the Weight The easiest and most universal scaling option. Original: Task 1 → Lightest Task 2 → Heavier Task 3 → Heaviest Scale by: Reduce each step by 4–8 kg total Use smaller jumps (e.g., 2 kg instead of 4 kg jumps) Keep Task 3 at same weight as Task 2 Keep all tasks at the same weight (no progression) Beginner version: Single kettlebell only (see below). Scale the Movement Complexity Overhead Strict Press → Push Press Use leg drive to relieve shoulder fatigue. Overhead Reverse Lunge → Front Rack Reverse Lunge Still unilateral, still loaded, but MUCH easier on shoulders and core. Dead to Overhead → Clean + Push Press Avoids the overhead swing-style pull often difficult for beginners. Strict Press → Single-KB Strict Press Reduce bilateral load/symmetry demands. Scale to Single Kettlebell (Best for Intermediate or Deconditioned Athletes) Double kettlebell overhead stability is very demanding. Switching to 1 bell dramatically increases success and safety. Single-bell combo example: Dead Clean → Strict (or Push) Press → Overhead Reverse Lunge (same side) Alternate sides each round or each rep.

Scoring

Total rounds from Task 4 × the weight used
