I was doing powerlifting 4 times a week 1.5 hours each MTu ThF (upper, lower, upper, lower). I could tell I was overtraining because I wasn't able to maintain consistency. Sometimes my week would bleed into the following week or I would skip a workout altogether. This is understandable given I'm 70 years old and my recovery isn't what it used to be.
My new program is full body twice a week for 1 hour each Tu and F. This should be plenty. My next step will be to incorporate more kettlebell workouts into these strength workouts, probably replacing the accessory exercises. These should take care of strength, power, and some cardio conditioning. It's a work in progress and it's fun. One thing of many I'm learning from Taco's book on How to Program For Kettlebell Training is that each program needs to be tailored to the individual, their unique capabilities and goals.
