Good Morning. For those of you not inclined to read long posts, I guess to start... the bottom line is that I am an older guy trying to stay active and strong all the way to the end.
My history as far as working out has always been endurance and cardio related. Unfortunately, running longer distances now is hard on my knees. I have switched to what I think of as hybrid training. My main focus is increase strength while trying to hold off the decline of my endurance.
What I have tried. I gave Kettlebell a try, private lessons (StrongFirst) and enrolled for a year with Caveman training when it was a dedicated Facebook group (I think) and website. Then I gave CrossFit a shot for about 18 months, I liked the hybrid training of strength, mobility and some endurance, all of it scaleable for progression. CrossFit always felt like a sprint to me though and I am more of a slow and steady guy when it comes to endurance. I also found their lifts and bar work a bit hard to do, I like strict controlled movements, CrossFit likes to use momentum and that along with fatigue feels like a recipe for injury to me. Which as an old guy, I can't afford anymore.
So I liked Caveman, quite a lot, Taco has a lot of knowledge as was always honest in assessment (never hurt my feelings, gave concrete corrections, but didn't pull any punches either or reinforce poor technique). I like that kind of feedback. I liked that it was scaleable, provided a way to push endurance, mobility and strict lifting technique. So I came back when I saw the App.
Now I do find the App a bit daunting, there is A LOT here. So I am starting slow taking the entry course and will see how I progress over time. If you made it this far, thanks, any words of wisdom about the App navigation pass them along. Those of you that have been here awhile probably have developed some tips and tricks.
Take care. I look forward to seeing others progress.
Hi @Troy T. , good to see you here in our new app. The Facebook venture is now gone and has been replaced by this app. There is over 2 decades' worth of content, so I understand that it can be...
