The press-out happens too late in the snatch. The hand insertion and taking control over the weight happens too late.
Solution
Press out earlier and punch the hand into the window and at the same time move the arm into the overhead position while decelerating the snatch into fixation.
Description
The issue can be a ramification of not pulling the elbow back early enough, if that happens too late then the press-out will also happen too late.
Pressing out too late can result in severe shoulder issues, especially when using heavy weight, and/or doing high volume. When the press-out happens too late then the arm is overhead and the weight is still moving toward the back. The force of the kettlebell then needs to be abruptly stopped and this produces a force that can lead to injury.
Press out when the kettlebell is at 60° to 40° before the end position, doing so allows you to take control and decelerate with a lot more muscles, including the latissimus dorsi.
Another ramification of pressing out too late can be that you become unbalanced as the weight pulls you back and when that is past your shoulder line (looking side on) then your body will protect it by moving back or you actually get pulled back due to the force.
The following video(s) cover this common mistake.
