Not following the progression required to safely learn an exercise and jumping in the deep end.

Solution

Learn about the proper progression for the exercise and follow its progression.

Description

Each exercise has a progression to respect and follow if one wants to stay injury-free and learn correctly.

For example, a swing builds upon certain bodyweight movements like the hip hinge and squat, those need to be mastered prior to swinging.

A clean builds upon a swing or a squat deadlift, those need to be mastered prior to cleaning.

A snatch builds upon a clean and requires good overhead mobility, which must be mastered before snatching.

The progression for the Hardstyle full snatch is the Hardstyle single arm swing, Hardstyle clean, Hardstyle half snatch, and then the Hardstyle full snatch.

The progression for the Sportstyle full snatch is the Sportstyle pendulum swing, Sportstyle pendulum clean, Sportstyle half snatch, and then the Sportstyle full snatch.

The progression for the full snatch is clean and press, clean and push press, half snatch, and then full snatch.

The progression for the jerk is to master the push press and then jerk.

The progression for anything involving racking like the clean, half snatch, jerk, push press, etc. is to master racking.

The progression for anything involving grips, such as clean and snatch, is to master grips.
