Mistake

Casting or throwing the kettlebell(s) away from you.

Solution

Let the kettlebell(s) fall naturally away from you.

Description

In a clean or snatch with a swing it’s common for beginners to cast to throw the kettlebell away from them to enter the backswing. This action is usually followed by another common mistake which is breaking too early at the hips.

When the kettlebell is in the racking position, keep the elbow where it is and slightly rotate the forearm so that the bell comes forward and starts its movement. Follow through and let it fall away while keeping the elbow connected until the arm is straight.

With the drop from overhead in a full snatch this mistake may also occur and in that case, the same sort of technique applies, don’t throw the kettlebell away but let it fall naturally and/or guide it.

The following video(s) cover this common mistake.
