What is an Exercise?

For our definition and following the Cavemantraining exercise naming convention, an exercise is a top-level/root description of certain movements. For example, a Squat is a movement that involves the hip, knee, and ankle joints. The objective is to move the hips to the ground achieving max ROM in the ankles and knees. This is true for any Squat variation.

Squat variations are exercise variations based upon an exercise. For example, a Pistol Squat is an exercise variation of the Squat and adheres to the basic requirements of the Squat exercise. The exercise variation defines the attributes that make it a specific variation of a movement, for example, stance, unilateral or bilateral, unilaterally loaded or bilaterally unloaded, and so on.
