Solution

Scoop the weight up in time if the kettlebells travels in an arc or make the weight(s) go up at the end like a “J” shape, where the bottom of the “J” is the arc and the top is where the weight travels. If the weight travels in a J-path it would simply fall down if not caught and not shoot into the body.

The scoop can start excessively, i.e. high, and over time you reduce this and hardly see it but the weight is scooped and then pulled down so it no longer travels toward the body.

Description

You can identify this issue during a clean when the weight(s) are banging on the shoulders or in a Goblet clean when the weight comes very close to the face and if the weight was not caught it would hit the body/face.

A clean with a swing can very well be performed with an arc but has to be scooped up at the right moment and then pulled into racking to avoid impact. The video below goes in-depth on this topic.
